James Dale Cowles, Bowling Green, KY—The community mourns the passing of James Dale Cowles, who died on August 17, 2024, after a brief but intense battle with ALS. James, aged 61, spent three weeks in the hospital before entering hospice care, where he spent his final days.
James was diagnosed with end-stage ALS just one week before his death, a shocking and rapid decline as he had only begun to show symptoms earlier this year. He is survived by his children, Jennifer (Anthony) Cornock and John (Autumn) Cowles, along with several grandchildren, numerous “adopted” children, cousins, and friends who knew him affectionately as "grandaddy." James was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Betty J. Cowles.
The family is organizing a memorial service at a later date, which will include military funeral honors to recognize James’s service. His wish was to be cremated, but without life insurance, the family is seeking financial help to cover the $2,500 cost of his cremation.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by Jennifer Cornock, on behalf of Heather Harp, to raise the necessary funds. So far, $100 has been donated by Cheyenne Cook, but there is still a significant way to go to reach the goal.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of James Dale Cowles. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
