Janice Jeanie Cockroft passed away recently at the age of 58 after a courageous battle with cancer, leaving her family and community in deep sorrow. Janice, known lovingly as “Jeanie,” had been diagnosed with cancer in February. Despite prayers and hope for healing, her battle came to an end as she peacefully passed away last week. Her funeral is scheduled for Friday, October 25, 2024, in Peoria, Illinois, her father’s hometown.
Janice is survived by her three siblings, her mother and father, six adult children, and seven grandchildren, all of whom are devastated by her loss. The family is currently facing significant financial burdens as Janice did not have life insurance or other resources to cover the cost of her funeral. While $7,000 has been committed toward the funeral, with her father Willie covering $3,000 for the burial, an additional $6,000 is still needed to meet the full $13,000 cost.
A fundraiser has been organized by Jini Cockroft, Janice’s stepmother, to help raise the remaining funds by Sunday, October 20. Donations from friends and community members have already started to come in, with contributions from Gwenn Pierre, Javon Jordan, Nancy Mallett, and Jini herself.
