John Oesch, Richmond, KY—The community is mourning the loss of John Lee Oesch, who passed away on Saturday, August 17th, at the age of 18. John was a cherished member of the Sigma Nu fraternity at Eastern Kentucky University, where he was known for his kind heart, strong character, and unwavering commitment to the values of Love, Honor, and Truth.
John was a Spring 2024 pledge class initiate and quickly became beloved by his fraternity brothers. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of those who knew him. The fraternity has expressed immense gratitude for the overwhelming support they have received during this challenging time.
A GoFundMe campaign has been organized by Joseph Ogden to support John’s family with funeral expenses. As of today, $1,660 has been raised out of the $10,000 goal, with contributions from 19 donors. The top donation of $1,075 was made anonymously, while the first donation of $100 came from Benjamin Stallsmith.
In memory of John, Sigma Nu is organizing an on-campus memorial event on August 30th at Powell Plaza, from 7-9 pm. The event will also focus on raising money and promoting mental health awareness.

Marty Dearing shared, “My heart hurts so much.” Pam Mccormic offered her sympathies, stating, “So sorry for family and friends loss.
