John Phan, San Diego, CA Community Grieves Over Unexpected Loss

John Phan—John Phan passed away on October 19th, just four days after his son, Johnny Phan, was able to return home. He had been battling terminal liver cancer, a diagnosis he received shortly before his passing. John Phan was 62 years old. His family, devastated by the sudden loss, is struggling to come to terms with the grief and the overwhelming burden of organizing his funeral services.

Johnny Phan, stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Washington, received a Red Cross notification while in training, informing him of his father’s deteriorating condition. He managed to fly home on October 16th, but in just a few days, his father’s health declined rapidly. The community remembers John Phan as a simple, family-oriented man, someone who cherished time spent with loved ones and asked for little beyond happiness.

In the wake of this profound loss, Johnny Phan has organized a fundraiser to help cover the funeral and cemetery services, as the costs are beyond his current means. The funeral will take place at Goodbody Funeral Services, and John Phan will be laid to rest at Greenwood Cemetery.

Several community members have already shown their support through donations. Linh Page has contributed $200, while Eldrin Pilorin and two anonymous donors have each offered $100. Johnny has expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of kindness and hopes more people can assist during this difficult time.
