Jon Nichols, Halfway, OR—Jon Nichols passed away unexpectedly while guiding an elk-hunting trip in Halfway, Oregon, on Sunday morning, November 10, 2024. He was tragically struck by a rifle bullet after one of the hunters chambered a round, causing the rifle to discharge. Jon fell to the ground and later succumbed to his injuries despite the efforts of emergency responders.
Jon was deeply loved by his family and friends, known for his big heart and devotion to those around him. He leaves behind his wife, Chynna, whom he married just four months ago, as well as his daughters, Kimberly Palek and Sarah Owen. Jon was also a proud grandfather to his two granddaughters, Charlie Rae and Callie Mae Palek. His passing has left a void in the lives of his mother, Jacquie-Finn Nichols, his sister, JoLynn Cagle, and many other family members, friends, and his two beloved dogs, Toby Keith and Ruby Doo.
A fundraiser has been set up by Brian Bates to assist Chynna Nichols, who is now facing a large financial burden following Jon’s untimely death. The goal of the fundraiser is to help Chynna manage ongoing expenses, as Jon did not have life insurance and the couple had recently invested in a large property and shop. The community has expressed their heartfelt condolences, and support has poured in from individuals like Kathy Calvin, who shared, "Giving is not just about making a donation, it’s about making a difference."
Jon’s family and friends are struggling to cope with the loss of such a kind and generous person. His memory will live on through the many lives he touched.
Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with Chynna and the entire Nichols family during this difficult time.
