Jonathan David Bitsilly, a proud member of the Window Rock, AZ community, passed away, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication. Born on October 22, 1961, to Hoskie Sr. and Grace Bitsilly, Jonathan—lovingly known as John—was one of six siblings, with three brothers and two sisters. He attended WRHS, graduating in 1980, and soon after followed in his brother Hoss’s footsteps by joining the U.S. Army.
The time he spent serving his country, particularly while stationed in Germany with his brother, was a highlight of John’s life. He often spoke of these military years with immense pride, calling them some of the best and most fulfilling moments he experienced.
After his service, John relocated to Phoenix, AZ, where he lived and worked for over two decades. Eventually, he returned home to Window Rock, where he became an employee of the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA), a position he held until his retirement in 2019. In his later years, John often reminisced about his family, expressing how deeply he missed his parents and siblings.
A GoFundMe page, "Honoring John’s Legacy of Service and Love," was created by Kallen Crawford to assist with memorial expenses. The fundraiser has already received its first donation of $25, with community members encouraged to contribute and support the family during this time of loss.
As we mourn John’s passing, we find comfort in believing that he is now reunited with his beloved family. His memory and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Our deepest condolences go out to the Bitsilly family. We pray for peace and strength for everyone affected by this loss.
