Jonathan Lewis Jr., Las Vegas, NV—The Las Vegas community is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Jonathan Lewis Jr., a 17-year-old student who was taken too soon. Jonathan’s bravery and selflessness have left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Jonathan was a devoted son and an admirable big brother. His tragic passing has left his family—his loving mother, Mellisa, and his 4-year-old brother—struggling to cope with the void he left behind. Mellisa, who has been diagnosed with PTSD and agoraphobia due to the horrific nature of Jonathan’s death, is unable to work, resulting in significant financial hardships.
On November 1, 2023, Jonathan stood up to a bully in an alley behind Rancho High School, only to be viciously attacked by over ten students. The brutal assault was recorded and shared on social media by bystanders who did nothing to intervene. Jonathan was left unconscious and severely injured, ultimately leading to his death on November 7, 2023, after six days on life support.
Despite this tragedy, Jonathan’s legacy of kindness continues. He was an organ donor and saved five lives through his generous final act. His mother, Mellisa, plans to honor his memory by organizing an anti-bullying campaign to raise awareness about school violence.
In support of Mellisa and her young son, Ashley Loveland has organized a fundraiser titled "For A Brighter Future!" The goal is to raise $20,000 to help cover medical expenses, housing, transportation, utilities, therapeutic support, groceries, clothing, and activities for Jonathan’s little brother. As of now, $450 has been raised through donations from Ashley Loveland and an anonymous donor.
We are profoundly saddened by the loss of Jonathan Lewis Jr. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mellisa and her family during this difficult time.
