Joseph Smrke, Toronto, ON—Joseph Smrke passed away on August 9, 2024, after a brave battle with cancer, leaving behind his beloved wife, Dawn Sinclair. The couple had recently celebrated their honeymoon in Greece, following their wedding the previous summer. Their nine years together were filled with love, laughter, and the joy of family and community.
Friends and family are grappling with the sudden and tragic loss, which came swiftly after his diagnosis. In memory of Joseph and to support Dawn during this difficult time, a fundraiser has been organized by Ivan Canete. So far, $650 CAD has been raised towards a goal of $20,000, with donations from Shannon E Halliwell, Wanda Bussiere, and Mark Stephenson.
Dawn Sinclair, a long-standing member of the Metropolitan Community Church of Toronto, has been a constant source of support for many over the years. Known for her generosity and gift of song, she has devoted her time to helping those suffering from AIDS, Cystic Fibrosis, and poverty in Africa, and has sung at countless celebrations of life, including that of the Honourable Jack Layton.
The community has shown tremendous support for Dawn, and donations are still being accepted to help her host a celebration of life for Joseph and to ease her financial burden during this time of grieving.
