Julie Cook, Cambridgeshire, Family Mourns the Loss of Beloved Mum

Julie Cook—The Cook family and the wider community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Julie Cook, who passed away unexpectedly on 25th September at her home. Julie leaves behind six children, twelve grandchildren, and her beloved pug, Chloe. Her family is devastated by her passing, as she had endured years of ill health with incredible strength and perseverance.

Julie worked for over two decades with the NHS, a career she loved dearly, especially in mental health and cancer wards. After being medically retired due to multiple health issues, including severe Type 1 diabetes, breast cancer, and sepsis that led to life-threatening complications, she still fought valiantly to regain her health. Julie was a survivor—overcoming a mastectomy, amputations, and a stroke, she even learned to walk again at Blue Bird Lodge rehabilitation and found solace in her home with her rescue dog Chloe.

This year had been a hopeful one for Julie. She was making significant progress, spending time with her grandchildren, enjoying days out, and looking forward to a family holiday next year. Julie had recently completed her Level 1 British Sign Language course and was excited to start volunteering at a local soup kitchen, a role she was meant to begin on 1st October.

Despite her wishes to donate her body to medical science in Cambridgeshire, a post-mortem examination has made it impossible to fulfill this final request, leaving her children devastated. To honor Julie’s memory, her children—Maxine, Lindsay, Gareth, Sapphire, Aiden, and Jordan—are planning a small, intimate funeral as she would have wanted.

A fundraiser organized by Lindsay Turner is helping the family cover funeral costs, as Julie’s unexpected passing has placed a financial burden on them. Donations, including contributions from supporters like Laura Wright and Daniel Wilcox, have begun to pour in, easing some of the family’s hardship during this incredibly difficult time.
