Kalani Parnell, Palmer, AK—Kalani Parnell recently passed away, leaving the Palmer community and his loved ones in deep sorrow. Kalani was known for his warm personality and the strong impact he had on those who had the pleasure of meeting him. His passing has left many struggling to adjust to a life without his vibrant presence.
Kalani’s most important role was as a father to his daughter, Selah, who has special needs and requires round-the-clock care. Selah was diagnosed with Tuberous Sclerosis at the age of one, a condition that has led to the development of tumors in her brain, kidneys, and possibly her lungs. She has undergone three brain surgeries, and her left kidney was removed last year. Due to the tumors, Selah suffers from a seizure disorder that requires multiple medications to manage. She is non-verbal and non-communicative, and her care is a lifelong commitment.
In memory of Kalani, a fundraiser organized by Susan Ess has been set up to support Selah’s ongoing care. The fundraiser, "Donate for Selah’s Care: A Tribute to Kalani Parnell," has raised $3,425 of its $20,000 goal, with contributions from 18 donors. The community’s generosity has been overwhelming, with anonymous donors contributing $1,500 each, and Sandra Hinton making the first donation of $100.
A Memorial and Celebration of Life for Kalani will be held on October 6th at the Alaska Native Heritage Museum in Palmer, AK, where friends and family will gather to honor his memory and the love he brought to those around him.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Kalani Parnell. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, especially Selah, during this difficult time.
