Throughout her life, Kerry faced severe discrimination and job insecurity due to her condition. This constant struggle, coupled with numerous health issues, severely impacted her ability to work. The AIDS Task Force of Northeast Indiana, now known as the Positive Resource Connection, provided crucial support to Kerry and her family during difficult times, ensuring they had necessities, especially during the holidays.
Derrick, who is set to start at the Kitsap Fire Academy in September, has been financially strained by the costs associated with his mother’s passing. He organized a celebration of life on July 29th, 2024, and has already spent over $7000 from personal savings and credit. Initially, they were informed that Medicaid would cover the cremation costs, but the state of Ohio does not provide such assistance, leaving the family responsible for the $2600 fee.
Derrick’s fundraiser aims to raise this amount to cover the cremation expenses, with any excess funds going towards credit card fees and donations to the Positive Resource Connection. As of now, they are seeking the community’s kindness and generosity to help them through this challenging period.
