Khalil Younes, Bastrop, TX Community Remembers Beloved Restaurateur

Khalil Younes, Bastrop, TX — The Bastrop community is mourning the loss of Khalil Younes, who passed away unexpectedly on January 11, 2024, at the age of 60. Khalil was a cherished member of the community, known for his vibrant personality and his popular restaurant, Cedar’s Mediterranean Grill.

His wife, Tracey Younes, and their 21-year-old son, Samir, are deeply affected by his passing. In an effort to honor his memory, Tracey has organized a fundraiser to create a memorial bench for Khalil. The bench will be placed under a big tree behind Cedar’s Mediterranean Grill, a spot beloved by many Bastropians who were friends and patrons of Khalil for years.

The fundraiser, “Support Khalil Younes’ Cedar’s Grill Memorial Bench Project,” has so far raised $40 out of a $3,000 goal, with contributions coming from generous donors like Susan Patterson.

Stephanie Nelson Wood, a close friend, encouraged the community to contribute, stating, "Let’s show how important Khalil was to our community; no donation is too small." Toni Fite Winkler also shared her sentiments on Facebook, remembering Khalil fondly as "the best."

Tracey expressed her gratitude for the community’s support, saying, "We appreciate each and every one of you in this fine community of Bastrop and thank God every day for showing us the way here."

Khalil’s memory will live on through the love and joy he brought to his family, friends, and everyone who visited Cedar’s Mediterranean Grill.
