Kyle Chidlow, Langley, BC—It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kyle Chidlow, a cherished member of the ILWU family. Kyle passed away on July 26, 2024, at the age of 40. He leaves behind his loving parents, Glenn and Linda, along with his two dogs, Philly and Alfred, and several other family members.
Kyle began his career with the ILWU on June 12, 2006, and was sworn in as a Union Member on March 18, 2020. Over the years, he formed many friendships that blossomed into deep family-like relationships. Known for his social nature and respect for others, Kyle’s distinct smile, contagious laugh, and overall vibe will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
The community has rallied to support Kyle’s family during this difficult time. A fundraiser organized by Rickey Baryer has raised $1,749 CAD of the $50,000 goal, with contributions from generous donors such as Angela Gopal, Maria Pesa, Nizar Ali, Courtney Nelson, and Danny Myles. The funds will help cover the costs of cremation, vet bills, care for his pets, and a celebration of life.
The ILWU, guided by the motto "An Injury to One is An Injury to All," has come together to honor Kyle’s memory. Laurie Schildt expressed the sentiment shared by many: "The ILWU lost one of its family members this past weekend. Sisters and Brothers, let’s get together and support Kyle’s family.
