Ledora Moore, Waterloo, IA — The community is mourning the loss of Ledora Moore, who passed away on July 4th due to complications from pneumonia and sepsis at the age of 94. Ledora, affectionately known as Ms. Moore, Dora, Momma, Auntie, or Grandma, was a beloved figure in her community, remembered for her resilience, generosity, and caring nature.
Her son, Menus Moore, also known as Daniel in the old neighborhood on Jackson Blvd on the West Side of Chicago, is deeply affected by her passing. Menus shared that Ledora had lived modestly and faced many struggles but always managed to help those around her. She moved to Iowa in 2019 to live with Menus after he was denied insurance for her transition.
Despite severe health challenges, including bedsores that threatened her life, Ledora’s strength and the support from hospice and Mercy One hospital saw her through many battles. However, on July 4th, with the fireworks symbolizing her vibrant spirit, Ledora was called home.
A fundraiser organized by Menus Moore has been launched to help cover the costs of her funeral and burial. The goal is to raise $15,000, and so far, $20 has been donated by Tracey Montoya. The funds will go towards providing Ledora with a decent burial ground alongside her siblings and a tombstone to honor her life.
Menus expressed his gratitude for any support, emphasizing the financial strain due to the cost of living and medical expenses not covered by insurance. The community’s support is crucial in ensuring Ledora receives the respectful farewell she deserves.
