Maria C Azurdia De Perez, affectionately known as "Mary," of Boston, originally from Guatemala City, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was 85 years old and had bravely battled diabetes and stage 5 kidney disease for many years. Mary moved to Boston in the late 1960s and became a cherished member of the community.
Maria was a devoted sister, wife, aunt, and godmother, playing a pivotal role in the lives of her nieces and nephews, including Nora Beatrice Ruiz, Mario Ruiz, Xiomara Escobar, and Wendy Escobar. Although she didn’t have children of her own, she took immense joy in being a second mother to them and delighted in the privilege of being both a grandmother and great-grandmother.
Mary’s vibrant and loving spirit touched everyone who knew her. Her strength, independence, and dedication were evident through her volunteer work at Maria de Los Angeles Catholic Church in Cambridge, where she spent many years supporting the community. Her selfless generosity, unwavering love, and joy for life left an indelible mark on all those who were fortunate to know her. Mary will forever be remembered for her kindness and strength.
The announcement of Maria’s passing has brought an outpouring of love and condolences from those who knew her. Beatrice Pérez-Ruiz shared on Facebook, “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria C Azurdia De Perez ‘Mary’… She will be greatly missed and remembered forever, will remain in our hearts." Other heartfelt tributes include:
- Carmen Bran: “Que Dios y la virgen santísima le den su descanso eterno y brille para ella la luz perpetua. Mis condolencias para toda la familia.”
- Candy Johnson: “Beatrice, you have my deepest condolences to you and your family!”
