Martin John Kroll, Nanaimo, BC— Martin John Kroll passed away recently after battling late-stage Squamous cell carcinoma in his throat. His diagnosis came as a heartbreaking shock to his family and friends, and his condition rapidly worsened, leaving him unable to eat solid foods and making breathing increasingly difficult.
In response to his declining health, Martin made the decision to enter hospice care and proceed with medically assisted death. His daughter, Katie Kroll, has been by his side throughout this difficult time, ensuring his final days were filled with love and comfort, despite the emotional toll.
Katie, who is currently completing her final year of university, had to leave both her studies and work unexpectedly to care for her father. As she navigates this incredibly challenging period, she is shouldering the financial burdens of her father’s end-of-life care, including hospice expenses, cremation costs, and various logistical needs.
To support Katie during this heartbreaking journey, a fundraiser has been set up to assist with covering essential costs such as hospice care, travel expenses, legal fees, and other unforeseen expenses. The community has already shown incredible support, with donations steadily coming in to help ease the financial strain.
Katie’s father, Martin, had simple wishes for his last days, one of which was to take a drive in a Tesla. The funds raised will also help fulfill this special request, along with other costs like accommodations and transportation to ensure Katie can be by her father’s side in his final moments.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Katie and her family during this profoundly difficult time. We hope the love and support surrounding them bring some comfort as they honor Martin’s memory.
