Maurina Lakang Abalang, Ottawa, Canada — The South Sudanese community in Ottawa is deeply mourning the loss of Maurina Lakang Abalang, who suddenly and peacefully passed away on July 3, 2024. Maurina was known for her unique, devoted, kind, caring, humble, and loving nature. She was a beloved mother, sister, and grandmother who touched many lives.
Maurina is survived by her five children: Josephine, Grace, Eunice, Moses, and Robert Abalang, as well as seven grandchildren. The family and community are in shock at her sudden passing.
A fundraiser has been organized by her son, Moses Abalang, to honor her wish to be buried close to her late husband in South Sudan. The funds will cover funeral expenses both in Ottawa and for transporting her body back to South Sudan. So far, $100 CAD has been raised out of the $20,000 goal from a single donation by Moses Abalang.
Maurina was a living dictionary of stories and a champion for education, always involved in community events and offering advice to the young. She cared for many people throughout her life, contributing positively to their development and to the South Sudanese government.
The family appreciates any support and prayers during this difficult time to give Maurina the farewell she deserves.
