Michael "Mike" James Brien, Jacksonville, FL—Michael "Mike" James Brien peacefully earned his wings and went to join our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 1, 2024. He was surrounded by his loved ones and had a courageous three-year battle with stage 4 prostate cancer that spread to his bones, lymph nodes, and most of his spine.
Mike was born in 1973 in Tigard, OR. His family moved to Seaside, OR, where he finished high school. In 1995, he relocated to Portland, OR, to earn his Associates Degree in computer applications. Shortly after graduating, he began a lifelong partnership with Maris, whom he married on September 4, 1999. Their journey together took them to the San Francisco Bay area before settling in Orange Park, FL, in 2003. There, Mike started a successful computer repair business, and they raised their two children, Mia and Micah.
Known for his infectious smile, witty humor, and love of chess and movies, Mike was a beloved figure in his community. He was a dedicated "Trekkie," an aficionado of western movies, and had a remarkable talent for recalling movie lines to lighten any conversation. His life was deeply rooted in his faith, reflected in his active involvement with Hands and Feet, Shindler Drive Bible study group, and Caleb Park Mission.
Mike’s passing leaves a void in the lives of his wife, Maris, his children, Mia and Micah, and a large extended family. He is survived by his father, Jim, Sr., brothers Jim, Jr., Dan, Dave, Stephen, Matt, and Mark, numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives who cherished him dearly.
A fundraiser has been organized by Cody Petry to support Mike’s family during this difficult time, aiming to raise $10,000 for funeral expenses and a college fund for his children. The family is incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and support.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In honor of Mike’s memory, the family encourages everyone to find and share joy in life, just as Mike did.
