Nana Fonwaah Kessie, London, UK—It is with a heavy heart that we announce the unexpected passing of Nana Fonwaah Kessie on Saturday, July 27, 2024. Nana was in London to support a friend at their graduation ceremony when her life was tragically cut short. Her sudden death has left a void in the hearts of her family, friends, and community.
Nana was known for her infectious laughter, positivity, kindness, and selflessness. She was the eldest of six siblings and had taken on significant responsibilities following the unexpected loss of her father, George Kessie, eight years ago. Her family, especially her mother, Gifty Kessie, is now faced with the daunting task of repatriating Nana’s body back to Ottawa, Canada, so she can be laid to rest beside her father.
In response to this tragedy, a fundraiser has been organized by Yaanyarko Adu-Jackson to support the Kessie family with the costs associated with repatriation, funeral, and burial. The community has shown an overwhelming amount of support, raising $51,165 CAD from 537 donations, surpassing the initial goal of $30,000 CAD. The top donation of $2,000 CAD came from Ernest Akyeampong & Family, with the first donation of $150 CAD made by Gifty Asare. The most recent donation of $100 CAD was contributed by Mary Badu.
Nana’s life, filled with love and joy, has touched many. Her memory will live on through the countless lives she impacted. The community’s generous support during this time is a testament to the love and respect they have for Nana and her family.
We are deeply saddened by the loss of Nana Fonwaah Kessie. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kessie family during this incredibly difficult time.
