Oluyemisi Thomas, East Orange, NJ— Oluyemisi Thomas passed away recently, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and dedication. Known for her vibrant personality, sense of humor, and deep commitment to helping others, she was a cherished mother and a passionate educator.
Oluyemisi’s daughter, Toluwase Thomas, has launched a fundraiser to help cover the significant medical bills, funeral arrangements, and other financial burdens caused by her mother’s sudden and tragic health crisis. Oluyemisi’s health rapidly declined after an incident on October 25, 2024, when she experienced uncontrollable coughing and began foaming at the mouth. Despite efforts to resuscitate her, she went into cardiac arrest and remained in a coma for two weeks. Her fight was courageous, but sadly, the Lord called her home.
Oluyemisi was a graduate of New York University and had devoted much of her life to education and helping those in need. She worked as a substitute teacher with the East Orange school district and spent her weekends assisting individuals with cerebral palsy. Her legacy lives on in the lives of her students and the countless people she touched with her warmth and dedication.
Toluwase, who recently graduated from Temple University and is pursuing her master’s degree at NYU, now faces the emotional and financial challenges of moving forward without her mother. The fundraiser aims to ease the burden on Toluwase as she navigates the difficult days ahead.
The community has shown tremendous support for the Thomas family, and many have shared heartfelt messages of condolence.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Oluyemisi Thomas. Our thoughts and prayers are with Toluwase and the entire family during this incredibly difficult time.
