Omar Garcia, a long-standing resident of Fort Myers, FL, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 16, 2024. Omar was 61 years old and was originally from Cuba, where he came to the U.S. in the early 1980s. His family, friends, and community remember him as a loving father, husband, and business owner who dedicated much of his life to supporting others and his community.
Omar first began his career as a baker at Marie’s Bakery in Hoboken, NJ, before starting his own business, Omar & Son Towing. Later, he expanded his ventures by opening Daysi’O Galleria Antique Shop. Omar and his family moved to Fort Myers, FL, in November 2019, where they began working on building Garcia Acres, a family business. Sadly, his declining health prevented him from fully enjoying these later years on the farm.
Omar leaves behind his beloved wife of 39 years and two sons, Omar Jr. and Frankie, who have taken the lead in supporting their family during this difficult time. His son, Omar Jr., has organized a fundraiser to help with funeral expenses, allowing their mother and younger brother time to mourn without financial strain. Although the community has already shown immense support, Omar’s family continues to ask for thoughts and prayers during this challenging period.
Omar’s warmth, generosity, and passion for family gatherings will be remembered fondly by all who knew him. He was known for his sense of humor, his love for Cuban culture, and his ability to bring people together, often hosting gatherings with roasted pigs and music played by his trovador friends.
We send our deepest condolences to the Garcia family. May they find comfort in the love and memories shared with Omar during his lifetime.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Garcia family as they mourn their tremendous loss.
