Patrick Russell, Osceola, IN—Patrick Russell, aged 66, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at Elkhart General Hospital. The news has deeply saddened his family, friends, and the wider community.
Born on December 14, 1957, in Mishawaka, IN, to the late William C. and Donna L. (née Dubois) Russell, Patrick spent his life dedicated to his family, work, and community. A graduate of Penn High School, he had a lifelong love for sports, particularly baseball, and channeled that passion into coaching his children’s little league teams. His devotion to sports extended to being an avid fan of Notre Dame, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Minnesota Vikings.
Patrick was known for his generous spirit, volunteering his time to several local organizations, including the Food Bank of Northern Indiana, The Center for the Homeless, and Hope Rescue Mission. His kindness extended beyond his community work; as the Manager and Owner of several convenience stores, he brought joy to his customers and employees, often brightening their days with his signature "dad jokes."
Patrick’s family meant the world to him. He is survived by his son, Brett (Zorina Disheva) Russell of Chicago, IL, and his three daughters, Amy (James) Rotering of LaPorte, Jennifer (Kevin) Brewer of South Bend, and Laura Russell of Mishawaka. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Jeffrey Ransbottom, Logan Luther, Adisen Van Deventer, Gretchen Luther, Linden Brewer, and Zachary Ransbottom.
Additionally, Patrick is survived by his brothers, William C. (Belinda) Russell of Hot Springs, AR, David W. (Juanita) Russell of Winston Salem, NC, John A. (Tammy) Russell, and Thomas A. (Karren) Russell of Osceola, as well as three sisters, Gaylene Shepherd of Clayton, NC, Angela Brown of Dayton, OH, and Kelly (William) Legg of Purvis, MS. His stepmother, E. Jean Russell of Dayton, OH, also survives him.
In his final act of kindness, Patrick chose to donate his organs, giving the gift of life to others in need.
A visitation will be held on Monday, August 26th from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and on Tuesday, August 27th from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, IN. Reverend Roger Coleman will officiate the service, with interment following immediately at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Patrick’s children have organized a fundraiser, led by Brett Russell, to help cover the funeral costs. Though the goal is set at $10,000, donations have yet to be made. The family expresses their gratitude for any support during this difficult time.
