Miami, FL—It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of Professor Stephen A. Plass, a beloved and influential figure in the St. Thomas University Benjamin L. Crump College of Law community. Professor Plass, who had been a vital part of the institution since 1989, was highly respected for his exceptional scholarship, unwavering commitment to social justice, and dedication to his students. His death marks a significant loss for the legal community and all who knew him.
Professor Plass’s influence extended far beyond the classroom. His commitment to excellence in legal education inspired countless students throughout his distinguished career. Many of his former students and colleagues have taken to social media to express their condolences and share fond memories of their time with him.
Manny Herrera, one of his former students, expressed his gratitude, saying, "Prof. Plass was the very first professor I experienced in a law school class. I never forgot him and admired his foreboding presence. God bless his family. I’m thankful for having known him."
Another former student, Chris Robert Tinton, shared, "Professor Plass, thank you for touching my legal career with your graceful and strict genius ways. You will be remembered forever, I hope to see you again one day! I will forever cherish the lunch we had after I graduated and how you were always there."
Ayesa Conger, reflecting on his teaching style, wrote, “‘The answer is yes, now tell me why.’ He was a tough professor, but you loved and respected him for it. My condolences to his family.”
The outpouring of tributes reflects the profound impact Professor Plass had on the lives of those he taught and mentored. His passing has left a void in the STU Law community, but his legacy will endure through the many lives he touched.
