Rene Emilia Mitchell Mills, Clifton, NJ— Rene Emilia Mitchell Mills passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at the age of 57. Rene, a talented and celebrated artist, was known for her work as a freelance illustrator under the name Rene Mitchell-Mills. One of her most cherished accomplishments was being featured multiple times in the Hidden Pictures section of Highlights for Children, where her whimsical illustrations brought joy to generations of young readers.
Originally from Suffern, NY, Rene lived in Pennsylvania and Port Jervis, NY before settling in Clifton, NJ two years ago. She was a proud graduate of Western Wayne High School and further honed her artistic skills at Pratt Manhattan. Despite her battle with lupus and other illnesses, Rene remained a beacon of kindness and grace to all who knew her. Her faith as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, along with her enduring love for her family and animals, was the foundation of her strength.
Rene’s family, especially her daughter Rebecca Bridges and son-in-law Skyler of Bothell, WA, will miss her deeply. Known affectionately as the "cat thief" for her special connection with animals, Rene’s gentle spirit and love for her beloved cats were a hallmark of her quiet yet profound presence.
A fundraiser has been created by Emilia Desir to support the family and celebrate Rene’s lasting legacy. The goal is to raise $7,000, and the community has begun to offer their support.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Rene Emilia Mitchell Mills. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this difficult time.
