Richard "Cook" Thomas Hower, Evanston, WY— Richard "Cook" Thomas Hower passed away on December 10, 2024, following a short illness, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Known to many as "Cookie," Richard was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, admired for his zest for life, passion for sports, and deep love for his family.
Born on September 5, 1963, in Rock Springs, Wyoming, Richard spent his life in Evanston, where he was an active member of the community. In his younger days, Richard excelled in football, wrestling, and academics. His interests extended beyond school, as he enjoyed music, fishing, camping, and snowmobiling. Richard was also an avid fan of the Wyoming Cowboys and Green Bay Packers, and he loved spending time at the state park, watching buffalo with his children and grandchildren.
Richard’s family was the center of his world. He is survived by his wife, Valarie Hower; children Arnel Hower, Daunte Hower, and stepdaughter Joloree Butcher; and his three grandchildren, Autumn Hower, Trindie Ring, and Kage Williams, all of Evanston, WY. He is also survived by a large family of siblings, including five brothers and six sisters, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Donna Mae and James Oliver Hower, and several other close family members, including his daughter, Melinda Mae Hower, and nephew, Derrick Dreben. His passing leaves a significant void in the hearts of all who knew him.
A fundraiser has been established by Richard’s younger sister, Patty Hower Roberts, to assist with funeral expenses. In her post, she expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support shown by the community: "We are asking those of you who knew and loved him, in lieu of flowers, to donate to help with funeral expenses. Your donations matter, and we are so thankful for the love and support."
