Richard Rick Pierson, Krum, Texas—Richard “Rick” Pierson passed away unexpectedly on October 23, 2024, at his home. He was 59 years old. Known for his warmth, mentorship, and adventurous spirit, Rick left an enduring mark on his community, his students, and his family.

Born on January 25, 1965, at Camp Pendleton, California, Rick was raised in a military family, which instilled in him a passion for exploration and adaptability. Following high school, he served in the United States Army at Fort Irwin, California, where his fascination with machinery began. This passion evolved into a lifelong career in machining, ultimately leading him to a position as the Engineering Manufacturing Facility Manager at the University of North Texas (UNT). There, he guided aspiring engineers, helping them bring their projects to life with a dedication that inspired many.

Rick’s journey included roles as a father and husband. He is survived by his first son, Douglas, with his first wife, Jackie, and his children, Natalie and Johnathan, from his second marriage with Jeanne. In his marriage to Ruth, Rick embraced the role of stepfather to her two daughters, Kira and Elena, further broadening his loving family circle.

Rick’s love for country culture and the outdoors led him to pursue his dream of becoming a cowboy. He and Ruth established a prototype machining business on their farm in Krum, where his love for animals and country life flourished. In his free time, Rick was an active member of the Christian Motorcycle Association and was known for his enjoyment of country-western dancing and karaoke, activities that brought joy to his friends and family.

To honor Rick’s legacy, his family has established a scholarship fund aimed at supporting future engineers—a fitting tribute to his impact on students and the UNT community. They seek to raise an initial $5,000, working toward an ultimate goal of $25,000 to provide enduring support for aspiring engineers.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 10:00 A.M. at DeBerry Funeral Directors chapel. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the scholarship fund in Rick’s name are encouraged, celebrating his legacy of mentorship and passion for engineering.
