Rick Oakes, a beloved member of the Springdale, WA community, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday following a massive heart attack. His passing has left family and friends heartbroken, as shared through an outpouring of grief on social media and support for his family.
ShanMarie Oakes, his daughter, shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, expressing the pain her family feels: “It is with much heartache and grief that we need your assistance to provide my selfless and loving father, Rick Oakes, a proper burial and funeral. He passed away today at 1:47 pm due to a massive heart attack.”
Rick, a mechanic by trade, was well known for his selflessness. His daughter Shannon Oakes, who organized a GoFundMe to support his wife, Diane Oakes, spoke of his kindness: "He would help anyone, even strangers, without expecting anything in return. He was a man who truly understood the struggles of life and always tried to make things better for others."
Several friends have expressed their shock and sorrow at Rick’s passing. Lorraine Jacobs shared, “Oh, I am so profoundly sorry. This is such shocking news. He faced so many challenges in life and still seemed to maintain a positive outlook….I admire that very much. My heart goes out to all of you.”
Another friend, Rowena Younger, commented, “Oh no Hun I am so very sorry to hear this. My heart breaks for you and your family. John has told me so many stories of your father and your family and has always spoken very highly of all of you. My prayers for comfort and peace are with you all.”
Rick had been in and out of the hospital in recent years, facing numerous health challenges. Despite these hardships, his positive spirit left a lasting impact on those who knew him. The family has set up a fundraiser to assist with funeral and burial costs. Currently, $350 of the $25,000 goal has been raised through four donations.
