Robert Lee Fletcher Jr., Little Rock, AR—The Little Rock community mourns the passing of Robert Lee Fletcher Jr., who passed away peacefully last Saturday, August 17th, surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Little Rock, Robert’s life was a testament to his dedication to music, education, and service.
Robert was a cherished veteran of the Marine Corps, where he served in the Marine Corps band, playing the clarinet. His passion for music was evident from a young age and continued to flourish throughout his life. After completing his education at Little Rock High, now known as Little Rock Central High, he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music education. His career as an educator spanned decades, during which he profoundly impacted countless students as the director of the band at Little Rock Central for 20 years. His commitment to music extended beyond the classroom as he led children’s and adult choirs at his church and taught private music lessons well into the latter part of his life.
Even after retiring from the Little Rock School District in the mid-1990s, Robert remained active in the community, continuing his work in church music and private instruction until after the 2019-2020 school year. His legacy is one of passion, dedication, and an unwavering love for both music and the people he touched through it.
In honor of his contributions and to support his family in this difficult time, a fundraiser has been organized by Akina Cherepski. The goal is to assist with covering a portion of Robert’s final expenses. Although the fundraiser has just begun, with a goal of $2,500, there has yet to be a donation. The family and organizers are reaching out to those whose lives Robert positively influenced, hoping that they will consider contributing to help meet this goal.
Robert Lee Fletcher Jr. will be dearly missed, but his memory and the music he cherished will live on in the hearts of those he inspired.
