Robert N. Allen, Columbia, CT—The community is mourning the imminent loss of Robert N. Allen, who is currently in hospice care battling stage four colon and prostate cancer. At 71 years old, Robert’s life has been marked by his dedication, service, and numerous passions that have touched the lives of many.
A Vietnam era veteran, Robert served for four years as a sergeant and aircraft maintenance specialist in Okinawa and Guam. His career also spanned roles as a wiring inspector/technician at Gerber Scientific and an information system administrator/engineer at Fox 61. During his tenure at Fox, Robert was known for broadcasting the Manchester Road Race for over a decade.
Robert’s love for technology was evident in his pursuits, which included computers, robotics, engineering, and flying. Despite not becoming a pilot, he achieved much through introductory classes for a Cessna and experimental ultralight. He also completed the Vernon to Vernon cycling route as a charity run, stretching 80 miles from Vernon, Vermont, to Vernon, Connecticut.
A man of creativity, Robert enjoyed 3D printing and laser engraving via CNC machines, often sharing his creations with loved ones. His bright spirit and sense of humor brought joy to those around him, and he cherished sharing stories from his diverse experiences.
Financial difficulties have beset Robert and his family due to the extensive costs of chemotherapy and radiation, leaving nothing for his cremation, funeral expenses, or remaining debts. His sister, Lydia Allen, has been tirelessly supporting him as a hospice caregiver, despite the lack of income.
A fundraiser has been organized by Erika Ellis to assist with final expenses, aiming to raise $16,000. The funds will be used to cover funeral costs, remaining debts, and the necessary cleaning and reselling of Robert’s house, which still has an unpaid mortgage.
Robert fought bravely throughout his life, from his military service to his battle with cancer. As he reaches the final stages, the community hopes to alleviate some of the financial burdens left behind, allowing him to rest peacefully.
