Rod Krushinsky, Edmonton, AB— The Edmonton community is mourning the loss of Rod Krushinsky, who passed away on January 5th, 2024, after a courageous battle with stage 3 gallbladder and pancreatic cancer. He was a cherished father of three daughters and an integral part of an all-girls soccer team.
Rod was a man of many talents, known for his ability to fix and build almost anything. His library of self-teaching books was a testament to his wide-ranging skills, from knitting 70s style suits to fixing shortwave radios. A professional country dancer, he also had a remarkable career, including working with Peter Puck and laying the carpet on the iconic Love Boat. He even designed the rug at Edmonton’s Windspear Center.
His daughter, Layla Krushinsky, is organizing a fundraiser to honor his memory and fulfill his final wishes. Rod had expressed a desire to be laid to rest with his parents at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Edmonton. The fundraiser aims to cover the cost of receiving his ashes and holding a small gathering to spread them.
As of now, $175 CAD has been raised out of the $2,565 goal, thanks to the generous donations of Katie Wheatley, Jillian Aucoin, and Lorraine Lohnes. The funds will be used to cover the $1,375 required for his ashes and $1,200 for placing him with his parents.
Layla shared her deep connection with her father, recalling his stubbornness and his belief that he would live forever. She emphasized his intelligence, kindness, and the joy he brought to those around him. A celebration of life is planned for September 29, 2024, which would have been Rod’s 77th birthday. The event will begin at St. Michael’s Cemetery and continue with a gathering at McDonald’s, followed by a visit to a local pub to honor Rod’s love for country music and dancing.
Rod Krushinsky’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His family and friends will forever cherish their memories of him and find solace in the love and kindness he shared throughout his life.
We are deeply saddened to learn of Rod Krushinsky’s passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time.
