Erick was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and grew up in Hammonton, New Jersey. After high school, he served as a Navy Corpsman in the United States Navy for eight years. Erick’s passion for caring for others led him to George Washington University Hospital, where he worked as an Emergency Room Technician while earning his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from George Mason University in 2005.
Throughout his career, Erick held various roles, including trauma nurse and charge nurse, mentoring countless nursing students and healthcare professionals. His dedication continued at AtlantiCare in Pomona, New Jersey, where he served in similar roles, always focused on providing the best care for his patients and guiding the next generation of nurses.
Erick found the love of his life, Shehleen (Khan)-Cabacungan, in New Jersey. They shared many beautiful moments together, even as Erick battled cancer from 2021 onwards. Despite enduring numerous treatments and surgeries, Erick’s spirit remained unbroken, bringing joy and love to those around him.
A GoFundMe fundraiser, organized by Carlo Cruz on behalf of the Khan-Cabacungan family, aims to help with funeral and medical expenses.
