Russ Baker, Appleton, WI—Russ Baker passed away on November 14, 2024, at the age of 82, leaving behind a profound legacy of love, dedication, and resilience. He was surrounded by his loved ones in his final moments.
Russ was known for his warmth and the ability to connect with anyone. Whether offering advice, sharing a laugh, or simply lending an ear, he made a lasting impression on all who crossed his path. His family remembers him as a beacon of strength and compassion, a man who fought tirelessly through personal challenges and never lost his sense of humor.
Russ dedicated many years to serving in the United States Army, followed by a distinguished 39-year career with Greyhound Bus Lines. He was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 and, after undergoing treatment, went into remission. However, in 2021, the cancer returned and spread throughout his body, leading to a difficult battle that lasted until his passing in November.
Despite the physical toll, Russ remained dedicated to his family and work, often showing up for his job at Greyhound even during the toughest days. His fighting spirit was reinvigorated upon learning that he would become a great-grandfather, giving him the strength to push forward through numerous rounds of chemotherapy. Sadly, by early 2024, the treatments were no longer effective, and his health deteriorated rapidly.
Russ was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Rosalie Ann Paris Baker, his parents, Leslie C. Baker and Juanita Elinore Hiatt Baker, and his sister, Mary Newton. He leaves behind his sons, Steven and Timothy (Stacey), granddaughters Stephanie (Chris), Leanna (Dalton), and Faith, great-grandsons Connor and Aiden, and his adopted granddaughter, Janice (Emilio).
A service to honor Russ’s life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Hansen-Onion-Martell Funeral Home in Marinette, WI. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with the service following at 1 p.m. Burial will occur after the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to assist with funeral and burial expenses.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Russ’s family during this difficult time. His presence will be dearly missed, but his legacy of love and strength will continue to inspire all who knew him.
