Sally Maki, Oakland, CA— It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of Sally Maki, a cherished friend and family member, who left us unexpectedly on Thursday, December 12th, 2024. Known for her kindness, generosity, and vibrant spirit, Sally touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Sally had always been a supportive and selfless individual, especially to her dear sister Annie Maki and her beloved niece, Kalana. The recent loss of her sister in June deeply affected Sally, as the two had shared a close bond since childhood, depending on each other after the early loss of their parents. Despite the personal struggles she faced, particularly with mental health, Sally remained a beacon of love and light for her loved ones.
Her passing has left a void in the hearts of those who loved her. Adam Hanna shared, "Love and miss you so much Sally Maki. You were the kindest, most selfless person I’ve ever met and the world is a better place for having had you in it – if only fleetingly." Jenny J. Li Hanna reflected, "She really truly embodied being a good human and her light shone so bright." Kathy Hanna also expressed her sorrow, stating, "She was a kind beautiful lady who left us way too soon. RIP sweet Sally."
In an effort to honor Sally’s memory and support her niece Kalana, a fundraiser has been organized by Annie Shin. The funds will assist with settling the estates of both Sally and her sister, Annie, and to provide financial support to Kalana, who has now lost both of her primary caregivers in such a short time.
Sally will be deeply missed, and her light will continue to shine in the hearts of those who knew her. Her friends and family have planned a memorial service to celebrate her life, with details to be shared in the coming weeks.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Sally’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. May she rest in peace.
