Sam Hin, Vancouver, WA—Sam Hin passed away on October 8, 2024, at the age of 81, following a battle with congestive heart failure and kidney failure. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, especially his wife, who had been by his side since the beginning.
Born in Battambang, Cambodia, on January 1, 1943, Sam endured unimaginable hardships during the Khmer Rouge regime, which claimed both of his parents. He immigrated to the United States in 1985 with his wife and children, with nothing but donated clothing from charitable organizations. Despite the challenges of starting over in a new country, Sam’s family ensured they were well-fed and cared for, drawing strength from his and his wife’s resilience.
Sam’s final days were spent at home, surrounded by his children and grandchildren, as he wished. He had expressed his desire to no longer receive dialysis treatment due to the discomfort it caused, choosing to pass away peacefully at home rather than in a hospital.
A fundraiser has been organized by his son, Kosal Sam, to help cover funeral expenses and ongoing care for his widow. The community has already shown support, with Rikka Quinanola donating $100 to the cause.
The family remains in shock over Sam’s passing but takes solace in knowing that he is no longer suffering and is at peace. The bond he shared with his family will be cherished forever.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Sam family during this difficult time, and our prayers are with them as they navigate the loss of their beloved father, husband, and grandfather.
