Sfc Jacob W Meyers, Mankato, MN— Sfc Jacob W. Meyers, 47, passed away on November 12, 2024, leaving a profound impact on those who knew him. He was a devoted father, dedicated soldier, and a cherished member of the community. Jake, as he was known to friends and family, was born on December 1, 1976, to Deb and Bill Meyers. He graduated from Mankato West High School in 1995 and immediately began his service with the National Guard, later transitioning to a distinguished 20-year career with the U.S. Army.
Throughout his time in the military, Jake served in numerous conflicts and earned several decorations. He was a proud member of the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell before retiring in 2015 after being wounded in combat. Following his military service, he focused on his greatest joy—raising his three children, Jillian, Jacen, and Owen.
In early 2023, Jake returned to Minnesota where he enjoyed spending his free time fishing, hunting, golfing, and watching Vikings football. But above all, he treasured his time with family and friends.
Jake’s death has left a void in the lives of his children, his mother Deb Meyers, and many other family members, friends, and Army comrades who mourn his passing. He is survived by his mother, his children, his brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Alana Meyers, nephews Peyton, Maclan, and Murphy Meyers, and his faithful service dog Gus, who was his constant companion.
A private burial will take place in Mankato, MN, following a celebration of his life on Monday, November 18, at 1 pm at the Prior Lake VFW.
The Meyers family has expressed their gratitude to the military community, and a fundraiser has been set up to support Jake’s children, ensuring they have a bright future ahead. Donations are being collected to help with the children’s expenses and plans for their future.
Our deepest condolences go out to the Meyers family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
