Her health battle began in July 2023 with a diagnosis of lung cancer. Despite multiple rounds of radiation and chemotherapy, she continued to show incredible resilience, facing numerous challenges as cancer spread to her kidneys and later to her brain. In September 2024, Sharon was hospitalized again due to blood clots, which led to further complications. Despite these hardships, Sharon remained strong and positive, choosing on October 8th, 2024, to stop all curative treatments and focus on comfort care, surrounded by her loving family.
Her passing has left an immense void in the hearts of her loved ones. As Hayley Dugan shared on social media, “Sharon Portwood Dugan made the choice on October 8th to be taken off all of her medicines and put strictly just on comfort meds… On October 10th, 2024, our beloved grandmother, mother, and wife was called home with the great Lord through the shining gates of Heaven. This has been one of, if not the hardest losses to our family as she was the rock and glue of our family.”
