Steve Newson, Secret Harbour WA—Steve Newson passed away on July 25, 2024, after a brief battle with cancer, leaving a void in the hearts of his loved ones and the community. Steve was known for his humor, warmth, and gentle sensitivity, making a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Dawn Matthews, a close friend, shared her heartfelt thoughts on Facebook: "Steve Newson, a big man with an even bigger heart. A sense of humor coupled with a gentle sensitivity. You wrote your name in the heart of those around you and there it will stay. Your spirit and determination are an inspiration to us all. Rest easy my friend. ‘If I don’t see you thru week I’ll see you thru winda.’"
Nicola Colville also expressed her condolences, "Only meeting Steve and working with Steve a few times, you know straight away what a beautiful man he was, thinking of the family and friends that were so lucky to have Steve in their lives."
Renae Santini called Steve "an amazing man, worthy of all the broken hearts today," while Denise Jones sent her love to Steve’s family and friends. Barbara Baumgart, who worked closely with Steve, remembered him as a "respectful, happy, larger-than-life man who radiates warmth, compassion, and understanding."
To honor Steve’s memory, his family has organized a fundraiser instead of memorial flowers. The funds will go towards cancer research, supporting the MACA 2024 ride, which Steve had intended to participate in. Joanne Newson and Dan Newson are leading the fundraising efforts. So far, $230 AUD has been raised out of the $500 goal, with donations from Lynsey Sankey, Marianne Gordon, Kirsty Bridgeford, Sue Leal Schnarr, and Jessica Hassall.

It is sad to see a wonderful man depart this worl. Having worked with Steve about 8 years ago, I can say it was the best experience at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. He was a good boss and very down to earth, man. Rest with the angels, Steve
