Ted Murphy, Port Orange, VA— Ted Murphy, a proud Vietnam War veteran and dedicated family member, passed away on October 17, 2024, at the age of 73. His untimely death has left a deep void in the lives of those who knew him.
Ted was a four-time Vietnam veteran, having served three tours as a Tunnel Rat and one as an Armor in the U.S. Marine Corps. His commitment to service was reflected in his life-long dedication to helping others, including his work as a certified chimney sweep. Ted owned three chimney sweep companies, with his most recent venture being Safer & Warmer Chimney Sweep & Repair, which he co-owned with his partners Sheila Smith and Paul Luu.
In the years leading up to his passing, Ted shared his life with Sheila Kennedy Smith, his long-time partner. Together, they built a home filled with love and laughter, often centered around their beloved pets, Layla, Athena, and Ruby. Ted’s affection for his dogs became a lighthearted family joke, as it was clear to all that he adored them more than anything.
Ted was also a devoted grandfather, lovingly referred to as "Pawbas" by Sheila’s children. He spent 32 years alongside Sheila’s family, and he was extremely proud of his grandchildren, several of whom followed in his footsteps by serving in the military. Ted eagerly watched his grandson Caleb play defensive end for Kansas Wesleyan University and reveled in the accomplishments of each family member.
Sheila, who has been affected by the financial burden following Ted’s passing, has set up a fundraiser to help cover final expenses and outstanding bills. Her hope is to keep their home and continue to support her family, especially as her daughter is set to graduate in the spring of 2025.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Ted Murphy, a true hero and beloved member of his community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Sheila and the entire family during this difficult time.
