Tom Bowness, a beloved husband, father, and friend, tragically passed away in May, leaving behind his wife, Cavel, and their three children, Lily (15), Oscar (8), and Emilia (5). Tom’s unexpected passing occurred during a weekend away at a rugby event, a trip meant for making joyful memories that turned into a heartbreaking loss for his family. His passing has left the community in deep sorrow, struggling to come to terms with the sudden loss of someone so cherished.
Tom was known for his kindness and unwavering dedication to his family, always putting their needs above his own. His wife, Cavel, who cares for their daughter Lily, who has special needs, has been left to navigate life without her partner and primary breadwinner. Despite the immense grief, the family has decided to proceed with a trip to Orlando, Florida, that Tom had planned for them before his passing, to celebrate their 10-year wedding anniversary. Unfortunately, Tom will not be there to create the memories he had hoped for with his family.
To support the family during this difficult time, a fundraiser has been organized by Mark Hayden under the banner "Climbing Hills to Put Smiles on Faces." The goal is to raise funds to help the family purchase tickets to Disney World, a place where they can find some joy amidst their sorrow. As of now, £750 has been raised out of the £2,500 goal, with donations pouring in from friends and community members, including a generous contribution of £200 from Ben Raybould, who made both the top and first donation.
The fundraiser will include walking the Yorkshire 3 Peaks on the 18th of August 2024, followed by the National 3 Peaks in September 2024, all in an effort to bring smiles to a family that desperately needs them.
We extend our deepest sympathies to Cavel, Lily, Oscar, and Emilia. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this incredibly difficult time.
