Tyrell McCarthy, Brampton, ON— The Brampton community remains deeply affected by the passing of Tyrell McCarthy, who tragically passed away in June 2013. His sudden death, while vacationing at a friend’s cottage, left family, friends, and his school devastated. At the time, Tyrell was caught in underbrush while swimming, and despite being revived, his organs failed, leading to his untimely passing that evening.
Tyrell, a star student and a natural leader, was loved by his peers, family, and school community. His legacy continues through the Tyrell McCarthy Memorial Scholarship Fund, which was established by his family to honor his memory. The scholarship is awarded annually to students at Heartlake Secondary School who embody Tyrell’s character and values.
Since 2014, the scholarship has been given out, but due to budget cuts and the inability to host previous fundraising events, the family is now turning to the generosity of family and friends for support. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to continue funding the scholarship, with donations steadily coming in.
So far, $550 CAD has been raised with two donations, including a generous $500 contribution from George Carating. The community’s support, including an anonymous donation, is crucial in ensuring that Tyrell’s memory lives on and that future generations of students are able to benefit from the scholarship in his name.
The McCarthy family, led by Jessica Nelson-McCarthy, thanks everyone for their contributions and for helping continue the tradition of honoring Tyrell’s impact.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the McCarthy family as they continue to cherish the memory of their beloved Tyrell.
