Virginia Starns passed away recently after a long and difficult battle with illness. Her family, friends, and community are now grieving the loss of a loving, selfless, and courageous woman who faced unimaginable hardships with incredible strength.
Virginia, who celebrated her 56th birthday in July 2024, was initially diagnosed with a hip problem in November 2023, which later turned out to be a life-changing misdiagnosis. This led to months of severe pain, mobility struggles, and multiple medical setbacks. Despite the challenges, Virginia bravely endured numerous treatments and surgeries, including a life-altering amputation to remove a tumour in her hip. Unfortunately, the cancer spread to her lungs, and her condition became terminal.
Virginia spent her final days in a hospice, surrounded by loved ones, after a particularly tough week. The doctors had warned her family that they may lose her overnight, but Virginia’s determination and strength saw her through. Her family has expressed profound admiration for her relentless courage and the love she shared with everyone around her.
In her memory, her daughter Rebecca Starns has set up a fundraiser to help cover funeral expenses and support the hospice where Virginia spent her last days. Any remaining donations will be given to St. Helena’s hospice, a place that Virginia’s family holds dear for the care and compassion shown during her final journey.
Virginia’s legacy will be one of strength, kindness, and compassion. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Virginia’s family during this heartbreaking time. May they find comfort in the love and support of their community.
