Virginia Vargas Banda, Mundelein, IL—The community of Mundelein mourns the unexpected passing of Virginia Vargas Banda, who left us on Wednesday, August 28, 2024. Known to many as "La Maestra Vicky," Virginia was a dedicated early childhood educator for over 40 years, leaving an indelible mark on countless lives with her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering passion for teaching.
Virginia’s life was one of sacrifice and commitment, building her family with hard work, trust, and faith. Unfortunately, in her later years, she faced numerous health challenges, ultimately losing her sight due to advanced diabetes. Despite these hardships, her spirit remained strong, and her love for her family and community never wavered.
In her final days, Virginia expressed a profound desire to return to her beloved birthplace, Guanajuato, Mexico, to rest among her family, friends, and fellow educators who had supported her throughout her life. To honor this wish, her family, led by her son Nicolas Banda, has launched a fundraiser to cover the funeral expenses and the costly process of transferring her remains to Mexico.
The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love and support from the community. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Kristan Funeral Home in Mundelein, IL, followed by a mass at Santa Maria del Popolo Catholic Church on Saturday, September 7, 2024.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Virginia’s family and friends during this difficult time. May she rest in peace.
