Walter’s journey was one of resilience and love. He served in the Navy for six years, participating in the Gulf War, before joining the Fresno Fire Department, where he rose to the rank of Captain. His career was cut short by his cancer diagnosis in December 2019, shortly after his promotion. Despite the challenges, Walter remained dedicated to his family and community.
Walter is survived by his devoted wife of 22 years, Trina Sickler, and their son, Michael. The family enjoyed many adventures together, from trips to Disneyland to camping in the mountains. Walter’s commitment to keeping life as normal as possible for Michael was unwavering, even during the toughest times of his illness.
The community has rallied to support the Sickler family through this difficult period. Traci Brisendine organized a fundraiser to assist with medical bills, funeral expenses, and other financial burdens. The campaign has raised $5,740 of its $20,000 goal, with 46 donations so far.
