Devon Briggs and Evelyn Plakal Tragically Pass Away After Undiscovered Augusta Parkway Crash Leaves Two Communities in Mourning
Devon Briggs, 23, of Buena Vista, Georgia, and Evelyn Plakal, 22, of Elgin, South Carolina, lost their lives following a roadway incident along Riverwatch Parkway in Augusta.
Authorities believe the incident occurred on Saturday, April 18, but it remained unnoticed until Monday evening, April 20, when officials from the Richmond County Coroner’s Office discovered the scene.
Both individuals were pronounced deceased shortly after 6 p.m., marking a heartbreaking end to nearly two days of uncertainty.
Investigators reported that the vehicle left the westbound side of the parkway near mile marker 2 by Goodrich Street and came to rest down an embankment, hidden from passing traffic.
Early findings suggest that speed contributed to the incident as the vehicle approached a curve before leaving the roadway.
The delay in discovery has deeply affected loved ones, adding to the sorrow felt across both communities.
One social media user shared, “This is absolutely heartbreaking, keeping their families in my thoughts,” reflecting the grief spreading online.
Officials continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident while families prepare to announce memorial arrangements.
