Fabiola Gonzalez, 23, Silvia Nuñez, 54, and newborn Baby Mateo died after a family incident inside a home on Monterey Avenue in Modesto on Thursday morning, May 28, 2026.
Modesto Police Department officers responded shortly after 9:20 a.m. after reports of a disturbance at the residence.
First responders pronounced Fabiola Gonzalez and Silvia Nuñez dead at the scene, while Baby Mateo later died at a nearby hospital despite emergency care.
Authorities also found a 4-year-old child inside the home, and officials said the child remained alive and received medical evaluation.
Police later took 28-year-old Joaquin Escoto into custody at a nearby residence, and investigators said the case appeared isolated with no ongoing public threat.
Relatives identified the three loved ones, and the loss has left family members, neighbors, and the Modesto community in deep grief.
