Guadalupe Rivera Remembered After Fatal Chesapeake Roadway Collision During Landscaping Work On May 29, 2026
Guadalupe Rivera died Friday morning, May 29, 2026, while working as a landscaper in the Great Bridge area of Chesapeake.
Chesapeake Police said officers responded around 9:49 a.m. to the 400 block of Johnstown Road near Britwell Drive and South Battlefield Boulevard after a two-vehicle collision.
Investigators said a southbound sedan traveling at a high rate of speed collided with an SUV turning onto Johnstown Road from Britwell Drive.
The impact pushed the sedan off the roadway and into a nearby work area, where it struck Rivera during landscaping duties.
Emergency crews responded quickly, but Rivera died at the scene.
Authorities said both drivers survived and went to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The roadway remained closed for several hours while reconstruction teams gathered evidence, and police said the investigation remains active with possible charges under review.
Friends, relatives, and coworkers remembered Rivera as dependable, respectful, humble, and committed to supporting family through steady work.
Memorial and funeral details will be announced later by family members.
