Marlon Sanders, 36-Year-Old Adams Elementary School Music Teacher, Remembered After Fatal Custody Exchange Incident In Northeast Harris County On Tuesday, May 26, 2026

Marlon Sanders, a 36-year-old music teacher at Adams Elementary School in Port Arthur ISD, died after a fatal incident during a routine custody exchange in northeast Harris County on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Sanders arrived with their spouse at the 12700 block of Blue Timbers Court to pick up a child when the encounter quickly turned tragic.

Investigators said 38-year-old Gary Davis came from a nearby location, approached the street area, and became involved in the fatal encounter near a vehicle.

Harris County Precinct 3 emergency responders reached the scene quickly, provided aid, and transported Sanders to a nearby hospital, where doctors later pronounced Sanders dead.

Authorities confirmed that no other person sustained physical injuries, although several people were present during the exchange.

School officials remembered Sanders as a dedicated educator, coach, and musician who supported student programs, sports, and school activities.

Gary Davis was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the Harris County Jail as detectives continued reviewing statements and evidence.
