Summer McElwee, a Lake Charles student pursuing Veterinary Science at Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in Saint Kitts and Nevis, passed away suddenly, according to a May 24, 2026 report.
Summer previously studied pre-veterinary sciences at the University of New Orleans and attended St. Louis Catholic High School and Iowa High School in Louisiana.
Family, friends, and classmates remembered Summer for warmth, kindness, bright energy, and a steady commitment to becoming a veterinarian.
Summer also loved Ryder the dog, Kendal the cat, dancing, the beach, and time with loved ones.
