Yuri Yakubiw, Esteemed Canadian Cinematographer, Passes Away Leaving a Legacy of Artistic Excellence

Yuri Yakubiw, a revered Canadian cinematographer, passed away in 2024, marking a profound loss to the Canadian film and television industry. Yakubiw, celebrated for his exceptional technical skill and artistic vision, had a career spanning over three decades.

His body of work includes contributions to renowned productions, most notably the long-running Canadian series Murdoch Mysteries, where he served as Director of Photography for several seasons. His outstanding cinematography earned him multiple Canadian Screen Award nominations, with his most recent nomination coming in 2024.

Yakubiw was known for his mentorship, helping shape and inspire the next generation of filmmakers. His colleagues, especially at the Canadian Society of Cinematographers (CSC), expressed deep sorrow at his passing.
