Jemérite Ndaya Kande, a vibrant 19-year-old student from Johannesburg, South Africa, was tragically taken from her family and friends on May 6th, 2025. The young woman, who had recently completed her humanities course with distinction, was preparing food in her home when the horrific incident occurred.
Around 11 a.m. that fateful day, a man broke into her home, and in an unthinkable act of violence, stabbed Jemérite multiple times, leaving her alone to fight for her life. Her cries for help went unheard, and she passed away in her own home, in agony. The perpetrator then fled the scene, leaving behind a trail of despair and heartache.
Jemérite had a bright future ahead of her. She had just begun her university studies in pedagogy, driven by a deep passion to shape young minds and make a difference in the world. Fluent in multiple languages, including English, French, Lingala, Afrikaans, and Zulu, Jemérite’s intelligence and kindness were truly remarkable.
She leaves behind two younger siblings who adored her, and grieving parents who are left to cope with a loss that is incomprehensible. Jemérite’s life was full of promise, and she will be remembered as a daughter, sister, cousin, and friend—someone whose light has now been extinguished far too soon.
In an outpouring of support, friends and family are rallying together to raise funds to assist her immediate family with funeral expenses and ensure that Jemérite’s memory is honored with the dignity she deserves. Her death has left a void that no words can fill, and she will be forever missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family is also calling on the public to help bring justice for Jemérite. If anyone has information about the incident, they are urged to contact the Johannesburg Police.
